Website cost calculator
Six questions, one honest Australian price band. No email gate, nothing collected. The answer appears right here on the page.
These bands reflect what boutique studios and small agencies in Australia actually charge, not platform ads. For the full breakdown of what moves the number, read how much a custom website costs, or compare a studio, agency and template side by side.
Want the band turned into a fixed number? Maison Turco quotes a fixed fee after one intake call. From $4,950.

Six things decide the price of a website, and they are not the six things most people expect. Page count matters least of the lot.
Custom functionality is the biggest lever by a distance. Taking payments, holding bookings, gating a members area or wiring a client portal each add real build time, and each adds testing time after the build. A brochure site and a store with live stock are different products that happen to share a browser.
Who writes the words. Copy is the single most underestimated line on any quote. Writing a page properly means interviewing you, understanding the offer, and drafting in your voice. If you supply finished copy the price drops. If you supply notes and expect them to become copy, that is writing, and it gets priced as writing.
Photography and imagery. A site built on good existing photography costs less and looks better than one where the imagery has to be invented, sourced or art directed. If the pictures do not exist yet, that is a separate craft with its own budget.
Whether the brand exists. Designing a site for a settled brand is execution. Designing one where the logo, palette and type still have to be decided is brand work first and web work second, and it belongs in a bigger band.
Integrations. A booking system that has to talk to your existing calendar, a store that has to sync stock from a supplier feed, a form that has to land in a CRM. Each connection is a small project with its own failure modes.
Page count, last. Pages three through twelve of a well made site reuse the same design system, so they cost far less each than the first one. Doubling the pages does not double the price.
What each band buys in Australia
Rough guide to what a one-off fee actually gets you here, as opposed to what a platform advert implies.
Under $2,000. A template you configure yourself, or a very fast one page build. Real answer for a holding page or a business that only needs an address, a phone number and proof of life. The look will be recognisably a template to anyone who looks at a lot of websites.
$2,000 to $5,000. A small custom site, typically three to five pages, usually with copy supplied by you and photography you already own. A studio makes it feel like yours rather than like the theme it started as. This is the band where a good freelancer and a small studio genuinely compete.
$5,000 to $15,000. A full marketing site with copy written for you, a design system of your own, and the search and analytics foundations set up properly on launch day. Most small business commissions land here, because most briefs land here once the copy and imagery are honestly accounted for.
$15,000 to $40,000. Commerce, bookings, a portal, multiple languages, or a brand built from nothing alongside the site. Bigger scope, more moving parts, and a longer testing tail before launch.
Above $40,000. Software rather than a website. Custom applications, complex integrations, or a build that carries an ongoing engineering relationship rather than a launch date.
The costs nobody puts in the quote
A build price is not a running price, and the gap between them surprises people twelve months later.
Domain, usually $15 to $30 a year for a com.au. Hosting, anywhere from free on a modern static host to a few hundred dollars a year for something that needs a database. Email, roughly $10 to $20 per person per month if you want your address on your own domain, which you do. Analytics, free if you use Google, a small monthly fee for a privacy first tool.
Then the real one: maintenance and changes. Prices move, staff change, an offer ends. Ask before you sign whether you can edit the site yourself, what a change costs if you cannot, and how quickly it gets done. A cheap build with expensive edits is not a cheap build.
And check whether the number you are given is ex GST. On a $4,950 quote that is another $495, which matters a great deal if your budget was five thousand.
How to read a website quote
Four things worth checking before you compare two numbers, because two quotes are rarely for the same thing.
Is the scope written down? How many pages, who writes the copy, how many rounds of revision, what happens if you want a seventh change. A number without a scope attached is not a quote, it is a hope.
Is it fixed or hourly? Hourly is fine if there is a cap. Hourly with no cap means the risk of the project running long sits entirely with you.
Does it say "from"? A price starting with "from" is an advertisement, not a price. Ask what the last three clients with a similar brief actually paid.
Who owns it at the end? The domain, the hosting account, the analytics, the files. If leaving is difficult, the price is higher than it looks.
Why we publish our prices
Most studios will not put a number on a page. We publish all three because a range you can see beats a conversation you have to earn, and because the wrong budget on both sides wastes everybody a fortnight.
Maison Turco charges $4,950, $12,500 or from $25,000, all ex GST, all fixed at the intake call. The number on the page is the number you pay. If your budget sits under a band, we say so on the first call rather than quoting up and hoping.
Common questions
How accurate is this calculator?
It gives a realistic Australian price band, not a quote. The bands come from real boutique studio and agency pricing. A fixed price still needs a short conversation about your specific build.
How much does a website cost in Australia in 2026?
A template or DIY site runs a few hundred dollars a year in subscriptions. A bespoke site from a boutique studio typically lands between $4,000 and $25,000 as a one-off fee depending on scope. Large agency builds start in the high five figures.
Do I have to enter my email to see the result?
No. The result appears instantly. Nothing is collected, stored or sent.
What drives a quote up the most?
Custom functionality: ecommerce, booking, members areas and portals each add real build time. Then page count, then whether copy and photography are created for you.
How much does a small business website cost in Australia?
Most small business sites land between $5,000 and $15,000 as a one-off fee when the copy is written for you and the design is genuinely custom. Below that you are usually supplying your own words and photographs, which is a perfectly good answer if you have them.
Is this a website price estimator or a quote?
An estimator. It returns a band, not a fixed number, because the honest answer depends on your specific brief. Any studio that quotes a fixed price without asking about copy, photography and integrations is guessing.
Why are website price quotes so different from each other?
Because they are rarely for the same scope. One may include copywriting and a brand refresh while another assumes you supply everything and picks a theme. Compare what is written in the scope, not the number at the bottom.
How do I work out the return, not just the cost?
Take the value of one customer, then ask how many extra enquiries the site needs to produce to pay for itself. For most trade and service businesses that number is small enough to be uncomfortable, which is the point. A site that costs $12,500 and wins two extra jobs a month has already argued for itself.
Are these prices ex GST?
The bands on this page are ex GST, and so are the Maison Turco prices. Always ask, because on a five thousand dollar budget the difference decides whether a quote fits.
Should I use a template instead?
Sometimes, honestly. If you need a page this week, have your own photographs and the brand is not the thing you sell on, a template is the right call. If your customer judges you on how you present, a template will quietly cost you more than it saves.
